My experience and educational background, as well as my level of patience and love, are great factors that make me a great candidate for the position. I currently work as a school counselor at Maplewood Middle School. Prior to this position, I was a co-teacher at John L. Costley Middle School, in a Learning Disability classroom, with a total of 17 students. Prior to working as a Teachers Assistant, I worked as a one-to-one paraprofessional for many years. I’ve worked closely with various students from different demographics and family structures, as well as with students with learning and behavioral disabilities. Some of my students I’ve worked with were students diagnosed with Tourettes, Autism, Behavioral Emotional Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Impulsive Control Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disability. Having worked with these students has made me well versed in the area of modifying lessons and administering accommodations according to my student’s Individualized Education Plan.
In regard to my education, I graduated from Montclair State University with my Bachelors in Psychology and a minor in Cognitive Science. After receiving my Bachelor’s degree, I decided to pursue my Masters in School Counseling. I had the opportunity to attend New Jersey City University counseling program, which I am expected to graduate with a 3.9 GPA December 2018.
Over the past 5 years, my education and work experiences has provided me the opportunity to learn and work with various students. Since working in the education field, I have gained excellent leadership and social skills. These contributions were greatly added to my set of skills, and have made me a phenomenal team player. My work experiences and education play a major role in how I interact with people, and I believe that it also contributed greatly to my character, reliability, and hardworking work ethics.
Lastly, I consider myself a lifelong learner. I voluntarily seek support and direction from the lead teacher, and other school personnel, to improve my students’ behavior, academic progress and social interaction skills. I take initiative to use current research and information, obtained from the internet, my professors, colleagues, and previous colleagues, to determine how I could best help my students.
